Last weekend my husband and I decided to see how much spare change we could find around the house to take to the Coinstar machine at the grocery store. If you redeem your spare change for a retailer gift card instead of cash, there is no service charge (which is usually 10.79%). That’s easier than rolling coins and taking them to the bank! Plus it got me to clean out some drawers. Since then I have found more change, so I’ll be cashing it in again for a holiday shopping certificate.
We filled a plastic bucket with change from drawers, jars, and coffee cans that had been collecting change for years. Now we have a nice, big Amazon gift certificate to use for holiday shopping and we didn’t have to roll the coins or pay a service charge.

It’s a great time to start looking for spare change in your purse, car, drawers, etc.–let us know what you find!
