The key to saving the most on groceries is to combine every available savings program on a single item for the lowest possible price. In some cases, you may get the item free!
The basic concept behind Strategic Shopping is combining sale prices with coupons, which we call "stacking the savings." Ideally, you want to use your coupons at the stores that have the most generous savings programs, because you may be able to save more by stacking more programs, such as doubling coupons, additional store promotions and store coupons.
For example, Brand X cereal may be on sale at your store for $3, instead of its regular price of $4.50. In addition, the store may have a promotion that gives 50 cents off participating items, and if Brand X cereal is included in the promotion, you could get another 50 cents off. If you have the manufacturers 75-cent coupon for Brand X, the price would be down to $1.75 per box. If your store doubles 75-cent coupons, the price would be $1. By combining multiple savings strategies, you could get the price down to $1 from the original price of $4.50.
Most shoppers do not realize how many savings and promotional programs their own stores have available. Strategic Shoppers start by doing their research at their own stores.
